Ohio black woman sues Reno casino over arrest

A Columbus, Ohio woman has sued the Peppermill Hotel-Casino and city of Reno, claiming she was arrested for trespassing even though she was a guest of the resort.

In her civil rights lawsuit filed Friday in Reno federal court, Gloria Durante claims a police officer and resort security guard ignored her when she said she was a guest and not drunk. According to the suit, the September 2003 arrest came after she fainted because of medication she took for a heart condition.

The 69-year-old Durante says she was treated unfairly because she is black.

Peppermill and city officials say they could not comment on the case. Criminal charges were dismissed against Durante in Reno Municipal Court in November 2003.

The suit seeks unspecified damages.
