New mobile Web site provides instant road conditions to travelers

With over 40 million subscribers that regularly use their cell phones for mobile Internet, those traveling through Northern Nevada have a new resource.

The Nevada Commission on Tourism has developed a new mobile Web site - NVroads.mobi - to help the media access and distribute more information quickly, and make it easier for travelers and locals, with Internet-capable phones, to plan their trips around Nevada, according to a press release issued from the tourism commission Wednesday.

The new site includes information on road conditions, construction, accidents, ski conditions at Lake Tahoe, weather information and winter driving safety tips. It also has "click to call" links to 511 - inside Nevada - and 877-NV-ROADS - outside Nevada.

Mobile Web sites are becoming more and more popular as cell phone users turn to "smart phones" to keep them connected to e-mail and the Internet at all times. Users can check weather reports, read news articles, conduct banking and check in for flights, among a variety of other applications.

Mobile phones are perhaps the one device travelers always have with them, making it a vital tool to stay updated on travel-related news, such as weather reports and road conditions.
