Jack Carter, who ran unsuccessfully to become U.S. senator for Nevada last fall, has endorsed Senator Joe Biden to be the Democratic nominee for president.
Carter is the son of former President Jimmy Carter.
He seemed to snub both Illinois Senator Barack Obama for his lack of experience and New York Senator Hillary Clinton for having high unfavorable ratings in polls.
Carter said in a statement released today that he was comfortable that Biden could win in the general election in November 2008.
Biden called Carter's support a valuable asset in Nevada and in early nominating state Iowa where he said the Carter name is revered.
Jimmy Carter is renowned for going from obscurity to becoming the Democratic nominee in 1976 after winning the Iowa caucuses.
