Today, the Nevada Republican Party's State Central Committee voted to move its caucus up to January 19th in a near unanimous vote.
Nevada's newly elected State Chair, Sue Lowden, National Committeeman Joe Brown, and National Committeewoman Beverly Willard all favored the move.
"I am absolutely thrilled about moving up this caucus," stated Willard. "It will get more people involved in the process, help to energize the party, and put Nevada on the National Map."
"Moving the caucus makes Nevada a major power player and is a great thing for this state," said newly elected State Chair Sue Lowden. "We deserve to know the candidates like they are known in Iowa and New Hampshire. Moving this caucus to January 19th gives us the opportunity to do that."
The Nevada Democratic Party responded by saying, "Today's decision by the Nevada Republicans to go against the rules of the Republican National Committee and hold a caucus concurrent with the Nevada Democratic Party on Jan. 19 is a testament to our success thus far.
"Nevada Democrats are far more prepared to hold a successful caucus than the Republicans, and we welcome the opportunity to showcase our party and our candidates.
"Every Democratic candidate has appeared in Nevada on multiple occasions and the state has held two candidate forums to date. We will watch with interest to see the Republican candidates show the same commitment to campaigning in Nevada and defending the dismal records of George Bush and Jim Gibbons."
