Vandals left satanic messages and vulgarities on six churches in Carson Valley on Tuesday. Authorities believe it is tied to Tuesday's date, 6/6/06. 6-6-6 is the number some associate with Satan.
The vandalism at Trinity Lutheran in Minden was discovered at about 1:30 am by a church worker. The vandals slashed tires on the church vehicle. They also painted 6-6-6 and upside down crosses on the windows at the church.
Pastors are saddened by the vandalism but say those responsible should seek help from the very places of worship they desecrated.
Pastor Steve Erven, Hilltop Community Church "Actually our great concern is for the people doing this. I don't know if it's one or two or three or a bunch, but if this is in their hearts and minds, what kind of citizens are they going to be in the future?"
Sgt. Tom Mezzetta, Douglas County Sheriff's Office "In the end, the damage will be repaired. The only thing they are going to succeed in, is bringing the congregation together. I'm sure their faith and resolve will make them stronger. So they're not going to solve anything through this senseless act of destruction."
The worker who discovered the vandalism did get a vehicle description. That vehicle is believed to be a two toned late 1980's or early 1990's Ford Explorer. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is offering a $1,000 reward for any information. If you can help detectives call 775-782-7463.
