Burn man applies to BLM for multi-year permit

The Black Rock City, LLC applied for a special recreation permit to hold the annual Burning Man event in the Black Desert.

The organization applied to the Bureau of Land Management's Winnemucca Field Office. Officials say Burning Man has taken place north of Gerlach every year but one since 1990 and is the largest recreation activity permitted by the Bureau of Land Management.

Last year more than 35,000 people paid for tickets to participate in the event.

BLM officials say in 15 years of site inspections and monitoring , no significant long-term environmental effects caused by the event.

Written comments of concerns are welcome and will be accepted until close of business on January 30, 2006.
