LAS VEGAS
Clark County registers 2,300 Katrina victims at community center

Updated:

Clark County officials say they've now registered more than 2,300 Hurricane Katrina victims at a community assistance center set up in Las Vegas.

But they say the process of helping people get established and registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency has been straining the Catholic Charities-run Fertitta Community Assistance Center.

That's got officials planning to announce a new location later this week where people from the Gulf Coast region can get housing and food stamps and other benefits.

Meanwhile, more than 100 Nevada police officers who've been patrolling streets in Mississippi since September seventh are due to arrive home in Las Vegas this afternoon.
