Katrina's Hope opened the doors to its new home Monday.
The non-profit group is collecting goods for hurricane survivors. Its main donation center is now housed in the former Wal-Mart building, which is owned by television personality Max Baer Junior.
Katrina's Hope has been collecting clothes, furniture and various household items. The group has even arranged for temporary housing for storm survivors over the past several weeks.
Organizers spent the morning setting preparing to collect loads of goods for evacuees in Northern Nevada.
Katrina's Hope organizers say even though Northern Nevada will not be receiving hundreds of storm survivors that were expected, there are still some victims from the Gulf Coast living in the area.
Tammi Geraci, Director, Katrina's Hope, "The response has been huge, all the way up to South Lake Tahoe and Truckee. We've received things from all over the community. We have had more then 15 homes that people have opened up to receive people who have evacuated hurricane stricken areas."
Lonnie Owens, hurricane survivor, "It's fantastic, they talk about Southern hospitality, but some of the nicest people I have ever met have been right here in this town."
If you would like to help, you can bring donations to the Katrina's Hope donation center. The address is 4209 South Carson Street in Carson City.
Organizers will be here from Saturday through Thursday from 10:00 to 2:00 PM through December 1.
