Clark County reports helping more than 1,500 Katrina evacuees

Updated:

Clark County officials say more than 1,500 Hurricane Katrina evacuees have signed up for storm relief at a Las Vegas community center.

Individuals and families from the storm-stricken Gulf Coast are being given meals, basic hygiene supplies, clothing and blankets, along with medical evaluations, at the Catholic Charities Fertitta Community Assistance Center.

The southern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross reports that it's served more than 1,200 evacuees locally since September first.

Some are getting financial aid ranging from 360-dollars for individuals to more than $1,500 for families of five or more.

The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development says it's placed evacuees in 254 homes in southern Nevada since last week.
