Fire engine damaged in fire near Silver City

Firefighters suffered damage to a fire engine in a burn over near Silver City. But no one was hurt and they expect to have the 30-acre blaze fully controlled by Monday evening.

More than three dozen firefighters, six fire engines, and a helicopter have the fire 75-percent contained this afternoon along the Lyon-Storey county line.

Full containment of the blaze that started with a lightening strike yesterday is projected this evening with full control by 7:00 p.m. Monday.

No structures have been damaged or threatened. But, BLM spokesman Mark Struble says a Lyon County fire engine stalled and was burned over during the initial attack phase of the fire. He says the crew escaped to a safe zone.

The incident is being investigated by officials for the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Nevada Division of Forestry, and Lyon County.
