Authorities say they arrested 25 motorists during the holiday weekend.
Between the hours of noontime on October 30, until 6:00 am Sunday morning, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol arrested the motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol, according to Trooper Chuck Allen.
Although Nevada Day fell on the same day as Halloween--Saturday-- many people had the day off on Friday to observe the statewide holiday.
Seventeen arrests were made in the Reno-Sparks area, while the other eight were in the Carson City area.
Most of the DUI arrests made over the 3-day holiday weekend this year were first time offenses, Allen said.
Law enforcement added troopers during the weekend, working saturation patrols throughout the Reno, Sparks and Carson City areas. These overtime shifts were funded by a grant secured by the Office of Traffic Safety, Allen said. The grant also funded additional officers from the Reno and Sparks Police Departments to have additional patrolmen on duty in their cities to identify impaired drivers.
During the entire month of October 2008, 123 arrests for DUI were made compared to 110 in 2007.
