A northern Nevada soldier killed last week in Iraq will be laid to rest in Fernley.

Funeral services for 20-year-old Army Pfc. Thomas Lyons were scheduled for Tuesday, with burial planned at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Lyons-a military police officer- was killed in Iraq on Sept. 8 when an enemy explosion hit the truck he was riding in north of Baghdad. Two other U.S. soldiers died in the attack.

His wife, Delvin, is also an active duty soldier, and both were stationed at Fort Richardson in Alaska. She gave birth to the couple's first son in May.

Officials delivered his remains by air to Reno Monday morning, where Lyons' family and a military honor guard received the body.

Lyons' family said the memorial ceremony is planned for September 15 at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Fernley.

Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons ordered flags at the Capitol Complex to be flown at half staff on to honor Lyons.

Lyons' mother and stepfather, Jeanna and John Flint, live in Fernley. Lyons grew up in Fernley and Carson City.
