Authorities have identified the two men and one woman, who were killed in a two-car crash on Highway 395 Tuesday night, and the driver of the vehicle, who remains in critical condition.
The men, both from southern California are 20-year-old Terrance Elmassian, and 23-year-old Michael Koroulakis. The woman was Sun Valley resident Eva Santistevan,18.
The driver of the car, Reno resident Heather Norris, 19, is recovering at Renown Regional Medical Center. The name of a female passenger who was also killed has not been released, but she is believed to be an 18-year-old from Sun Valley, according to NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says Norris was southbound on U.S. Highway 395 at 6 p.m. Tuesday when she swerved to avoid a piece of furniture that had fallen off of a pickup truck in front of her. Her car flipped over the jersey wall into oncoming traffic, skidding on its roof until it struck an SUV driven by 32-year-old Kari Estrada of Reno. Estrada suffered moderate injuries. Her 8-month-old son, who was strapped into a car seat, was uninjured.
Authorities believe Koroulakis was riding in the front passenger seat, was not wearing a seat belt, and was ejected from the vehicle during the accident. Elmassian, who had just moved to Reno four days prior to the accident, is believed to have been riding in the rear seat of the vehicle and wearing a seat belt. Authorities say Santistevan was riding in the back seat wearing a seat belt. Authorities declared all three dead at the scene.
No charges have been filed in the case. The NHP Major Accident Investigation Team will submit its report to the Washoe County District Attorneys office for review.
