Nevada had the largest increase in workplace fatalities of all states in 2007, according to a new report issued by a national labor advocacy organization.
The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations--AFL-CIO--released its annual "Death on the Job" report identifying how many people died and/or were injured at their workplaces in the past year. The report also provides analyses on workplace safety, according to Spokesman Zack Pesavento.
The report identifies Nevada's rate for worker fatalities as 5.5 for every 100,000 workers; higher than the national average. The 2007 rate in Nevada was 38 percent higher than the rate reported in 2006, according to the report, giving the Silver State the highest spike in fatalities in the nation.
